I come across many people who don’t care about climate change or air pollution at all. Well recently, one of my friends asked me, “do you smoke hookah?” I replied in negative and also mentioned the fact that there is already so much pollution in the air so why add more. My friend was like I don’t care about it, and that genuinely hit me.
These kind of people are the ones that drive their bikes around just for ‘fun’,racing around on little highways, they just don’t care about the air pollution they are spreading or even about the petrol they are just wasting for fun. These teenagers are a great loss for the country’s economy as well as world’s environmental future. On 10th June 2019, the mercury touched 48 degrees Celsius in Delhi. 11 of the 15 hottest places in the world were in India weather monitoring website El Dorado reported. The pattern of frequent heat waves in the country is part of the climate change that is making itself felt across the globe. Last year was the sixth-warmest since 1901, when preserving weather records started in the country. Since 2004, the country has experienced 11 of the 15 warmest years. Why do you think it got so warm? we don’t even realize it but these little experiences of ‘fun’ are actually impacting us in a big way.
Glaciers help to prevent global warming, by acting as giant mirrors. They help to deflect the sunlight from the surface of the earth back to the atmosphere and controlling the earth’s temperature. Why doesn’t it hurt when you see those glaciers melting? Because they will impact your lives. According to Dhaka Tribune a study says that the Himalayan glaciers melting twice as fast. Since 1912, the famous snows of Kilimanjaro have melted over 80 percent. The glaciers in the Garhwal Himalaya in India are melting so quickly that the researchers feel that most eastern and central Himalayan glaciers could nearly disappear by 2035. If all the ice covering Antarctica , Greenland, and in mountain glaciers around the world were to melt, sea level would rise about 70 meters (230 feet). The ocean would cover all the coastal cities. It would be a ordeal.
I also wonder why are world governments so money-grubbing? cigarettes are being sold all around the world even though we know that they are not good for us. Are we wreaking havoc on nature just for money? I think us egocentric humans won’t ever realize that what we have been gifted by nature is beyond money, it is something very precious and so very spectacular. When will we realize that all these actions that we do do contribute to something very big. Are we going to think about it when there will be nothing left? or when we move to Mars because we would have destroyed all the rivers which are seemingly endless, tireless, effortless, fluid grace gifted by nature?
So do something ! don’t just sit and not care about environment or we all will regret this. Change will start with the little things you do. Start by being more aware, reduce water waste, saving water decreases carbon pollution. This is because it requires a lot of your energy to heat, pump, and treat your water. So taking shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, and switching to the WaterSense-labeled appliances and fixtures will reduce water waste.A study by the EPA estimated that if one of every 100 American homes makes use of water-efficient fixtures or appliances, it will save about 100 million KW-hours of electricity a year. Thereby preventing 80,000 tons of global warming pollution on our plane. You can also stop wasting food because about 15% of world energy goes into growing, packaging, processing, and shipping food and 40% of it ends up in landfills. Going vegan is another way of preventing it because when you eat meat, you are indirectly disturbing the food cycle.
